DragonKnights

This RPG is exclusively to Seth and I. This story is an idea we both had and takes place before the Misadventures and The Adventures of Kain, so any posts other than our own will be deleted. But please feel free to read, and if you have any comments or suggestions then please do so by Pming one of us. And without further ado our story begins...


A swish of air and steady footfalls alerted Drey. He lifted his head up from his papers as his old mentor and friend stepped through the doorway.
"New recruits?" Drey smiled in greeting.
"Darren nodded with a similar smile. "Waiting for you now."
Drey's smile turned into a grin as he stood up. "The usual types?"
Darren let his turn into mild innocence and turned away. "I'm not sure I know what you mean."
He laughed, grabbing his uniform. The old thing still had a few rips from past battles, marks better than any medal could be. "You know, punks, show-offs, sees no point at all in being trained by a halfer like me."
"Actually, no," Darren smiled amused, making Drey paused. "At least not all of them." this earned another grin. "Your son's in this group."
Drey turned back, stumbling a little. "Really? Drake made it in?"
Darren smiled. "You seem surprised."
"More for the fact that he's in my division. I wouldn't have thought the council would go for that, what with our already strained relationship. if it wasn't for the fact that Adriane's King now they wouldn't have even considered letting me on."
"Well, his abilities are better suited in your division, and they have to go for what's best for the force. Which, by the way, reminds me." He smiled more. "How you holding up?"
Drey grimaced. "Barely. The papers never end. Recomendations here, division reports there, and not to mention all the angry fan mail. Whatever happened to secretaries?"
Darren laughed as he walked with Drey out of what was once his own office within the Floating Keep, a giant collossus base that hovers in the sky above the worlds of Earth and Istel.
"Not what you expected when you became head of the DragonKnights, is it?" he laughed, bemused. Drey grimaced again.
"Not at all. I don't know how you managed it. And by the way, hows retirement for you?"
"Boring," came his reply, accented by the tone of his voice. "Which is why I still hang out here where all the equipment is. I can continue my research here."
"And you're welcome to it, considering this is all yours anyways."
"Actually, Drey, this all became yours when you took over my position and accepted the job. Which you need to be doing."
"Okay, okay," he laughed. "I'm on it. Time to pick on some apprentices."


"Father's not going to be happy when he hears where I"VE been put."
I looked up. There goes that blond again. I really hope I don't get paired up with him.
"I don't know why your complaining; they say he's the best." The brown haired one said. I really wished I knew their names, but it seems they don't know me.

"So they SAY." Resuyo retorted. "It doesn't prove anything."
Sephen just sighed. There he goes again.

OOC: Cool. I think I'm going to stick with third person writing this time.

The blond nodded to the one that just spoke. "Exactly! This guy is a halfling. I'll bet he just took credit for all thosese stories before someone else could speak up."
Drake inwardly groaned. Looks like he won't be getting along with anyone here.
"I don't think so," spoke up a bright red-head (Venge), making Drake glance up. "Have you seen this guy fight?"
"Have you?" the blond demanded.
"Well, no. But my brother said he was there when all the division had to join up in the fight against those shadow monsters. He told me watching him was like watching six dragons fight in one."

OOC: Yeah, me too. Idk if I'll do it with Soul. We'll just see what modd I'm in when we get there.

Sephen nodded. "He's got a point. And besides, isn't he the only one that can teach us those 'special' lessons?"
Resuyo snorted. "What kind of lessons?"

OOC: too hard being subtle. I'm just gonna say their names.

Drake looked towards him. "Special lessons? What special lessons?"
Venge glanced at him. "You mean you don't know? There was a rumor all over the Academy about the special lesson advantage that going to the Air Base offers. I mean, he goes to the other bases, too, but we get the full experience."
"'Cept noone's told us what it was," Sadiir sneered. "All they said was, 'You'll just have to see for yourself.' I bet it isn't even that special, just some story they made up out of sympathy for him."
Drake returned to his gaze to the floor, keeping his anger in. They'll see, he told himself. Just wait. They're going to be surprised, by how great he is.

"Exactly." Resuyo growled. "Like I said, just because they talk about him like he's special, it doesn't mean he really is."
Sephen punched his brother in the shoulder. "Dude, quiet, I think someone's coming." he hissed.

OOC: Omg, you read my mind. I was just thinking on how to bring him in.

Drake looked up too, hearing the footsteps, and everyone immediately stood to attention, just like they were trained.
"...alright, keep on it and let me know if anything comes up," Two DragonKnight legends turned their corner, one tall with black hair that had a few silver streaks of age, the other with blue spiky hair like Drake's and bright red eyes.
The black haired one waved in parting. "Will do, Drey. Don't worry, we'll find a cure."
"That's Darren!" hissed Venge in awe. But Drake was more concerned with what he said. Cure...?

OOC: You're welcome.

Sephen was sitting there wondering, too. Cure for what, and illness? he thought. Resuyo just stared, no expression whatsoever on his face.

Drey turned his attention to them. "Alright! You guys the new recruits?" His bright red eyes looked over each of them individually with eagerness, a welcoming yet mischevous smile on his face. The red scars were still intimidating, even to Drake; scars were a sure sign battles fought and one. "Excellent! It's been a while since this division's seen a group this big. At ease guys, no need to be so tensed up; we do things a little differently here.
"I'll start with answering suspicions that have no doubt run through your heads: Yes, I am half dragon, half human. Yes, a long time ago I ran away and came back messed up. No, I did not get this job because my brother is King. And No, I did not just take credit for the hero stories you've heard about me, nor am I given extra help because of pity." He eyed Sadiir and Resuyo.

OOC: haha, Drey's awesome.

Resuyo stiffened. He looked over at his brother, Sephen, who gave him the "You're busted" look.

Sadiir swallowed. Drake supressed a grin. They hadn't realized he could hear them.
"Now that we've gotten that straight, lets move on to-"
"Who said we have that straight?" interrupted Sadiir boldly.
"Sadiir..." warned Rengei fearfully.
Drey stopped, staring at him with mild surprise. "I beg your pardon?"
Sadiir stared back defiantly and with obious disrespect.
"That's just your word that you did all though things. You're only half-dragon! How are we expected to believe you did things a full dragon couldn't even do?"

Sephen looked at Resuyo, expecting the same tone to come from him, but instead, his brother just looked at Sadiir. "I wouldn't push it..."

Drey frowned a Sadiir for a moment, and everyone expected him to say something angry. But instead, to everyones surprise (except Drake's), all he did was sigh and say,"There's always one."
"Tell me something," he said, his voice suddenly as hard as his gaze. "Sadiir, correct? Is a dragon ever born with the skills of a DragonKnight?"
"Well, no-"
"And the dragon mages, becoming one is almost impossible, right?"
"Y-yeah-"
"And yet they still exist, correct?"
"Y-yes." Sadiir began to cower under the power of his stare. Even though it wasn't frightening, it demanded authority.
He lifted up to address the rest. "Just because someone is only half of something or doesn't have what most others have does not mean there powerless. A disadvantage is meant to be something to overcome, not to restrict. I didn't get to where I am now because of who I am or who I know. I paid with my own sweat and blood, and if you ever expect to amount to something I suggest you get it in your heads right now to do the same. Giving half the effort only gets you halfway; remember that. Because otherwise, you'll find that life is harsh and merciless." His gaze went to his own thoughts as he spoke for a moment, then snapped back to attention. "Are we clear now?"
"Yes sir!" the others chanted.

"Yes sir!" Sephen said with the others, but Resuyo just stood there.
"I have a question." he said boldly, but not in a rude tone.

Drey nodded for him to continue.

Resuyo took a breath before asking, "Well, I'm just wondering, how did you make up for your disadvantage of beeing a half-breed?"

Drey smiled sadly for a moment, choosing the right words. "I had to endure great pain to have what I have now, and have the detirmination to survive," he said carefully. "It wasn't easy. Many times I should have given up."

"How?" Now Resuyo was getting curious, as was Sephen next to him.

Drey looked at Resuyo curiously. "Maybe I'll tell you that story another time.
"Now, back to business. I want you each to state your names and the squad you were previously stationed in, starting from the right."
The blond stepped foreward. "Sadiir Fringe, squad nine."
The dark brown was next. "Regei Strike, squad nine."
The red head followed. "Venge Creed, squad 4."

OOC: Sephen and Resuyo are from 7 and 3, in case you forget. Or actually, you could probably make up your own number. Just keep it under 15.

OOC: Alright, but what were thei last names again?

OOC: Daln and Crain.

OOC: Okay, but which one's which?

OOC:Sephan Daln and Resuyo Crain. Sorry about taht.

OOC: S'alright.

The darker red came next. "Resuyo Crain, squad 7."
The silver haired came last. "Sephen Daln, squad 3."

Drake stepped foreward. "Drake Istalri, squad six."
All the dragon's stared incrediously at the sound of his last name.
Drey stood errect. "Dreyden Istalri, Head DragonKnight of the Air Division." Then he smiled. "Welcome to the Floating Keep, boys. Dismissed."
